- Adobe Audition - an excellent audio editor for Windows, with several interesting features and extensive format import/export support. Formerly known as CoolEdit Pro.
- Audiocoding - a very good site for information on AAC technology, home of FAAC (free, open source AAC encoder) and FAAD (open source, fast and high quality AAC decoder). Features a forum and a knowledge base.
- ff123.net - web site of my master ff123, the man that taught me everything I know about listening tests. His site features an impressive collection of articles on listening tests conduced by him, test methodologies, hearing training instrictions...
- FLAC - a featureful lossless codec. Worth checking out.
- Foobar2000 - potentially the most featureful and high quality audio player out there.
- HydrogenAudio - a big community centered on a discussion board dealing with various audio-related subjects.
- iTunes - high quality, fast, easy to use and free AAC encoder/audio library/audio player. Highly recommended.
- Lame - the best MP3 encoder at most bitrates. Very highly recommended.
- Ogg Vorbis - a high quality, open source audio compression format that is claimed to be unencumbered by patents - unlike MP3 and AAC
- WavPack - my favourite lossless audio compressor. It's open source, fast, featureful and offers a good compression ratio.
- Winamp - the best known audio player, for sure. And also my favourite.
